Lower Blepharoplasty

What is a Lower Blepharoplasty?

Lower blepharoplasty or lower eyelids surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that gets rid of lower eyelid skin excess and treats the under eye fat bags and groove. It gives the patient a young and fresh look.

The Procedure

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with minimal sedation. In some cases, it can be performed without any external skin incision and in other cases, it is performed through a hidden incision directly below the lower skin lashes.

During this procedure, the skin excess is removed. The fat bags are reduced in size and the remaining fat is repositioned to fill the under eye groove creating a smooth transition between the cheek and eye areas. The lateral border of the eye can be adjusted during the same procedure and this consists of a part of the procedures known as fox eye, cat eye, and ponytail eye lift.

Procedure can take 1 to 2 hours.

What about the recovery?

Patients will experience discomfort that can be relieved with medication. Two days after the surgery, you should expect bruising & swelling to be at its worst. Sutures are removed 7 days after the surgery and it takes around 1-2 weeks to recover.

Possible Lower blepharoplasty complications

Like any surgery, there are possible complications: hematoma, infection, scarring, asymmetries.
